MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Writing dramatic scripts is a practice that must be honed in the body and mind. My teaching methodology uses a combination of somatic exercises, generative writing, play analysis, and instructor-led feedback to encourage four traits in writers:
the desire to read great work
the ability to write every day
the bravery to discard bad ideas, and
the willingness to protect good ideas.
In the past, I have taught coursework at The New School for Drama, NYU Tisch’s Rita and Burton Department of Dramatic Writing, and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts.
